01Introduction
These API Terms (the API Terms) govern access to the CoinMarketCal API and developer materials operated by CoinMarketCal SARL (we, us). They supplement the Terms of service (the Terms), which keep applying to the website and other parts of the Service. Where the two conflict for API use, these API Terms prevail.
In these API Terms, API Data is anything served through the API, including event data, scores, rankings, identifiers, and editorial metadata. Application is your product that uses the API.
02Eligibility
The API is for businesses and other professional users, not consumers. By using the API you confirm you act for your trade, business, or profession, and (where applicable) that you can bind your employer or principal. The 18+ rule and account-accuracy duties from Terms §01 and §03 also apply.
03License and permitted use
Subject to your compliance with these API Terms and the Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable license to:
- access the API to develop, test, and operate your Application;
- display API Data to your end users inside your Application;
- cache API Data as needed to run your Application (see section 08).
We reserve all rights not expressly granted.
04Restrictions
You must not:
- violate law or third-party rights;
- train, fine-tune, evaluate, or build datasets for any machine-learning, large-language, embedding, or similar model on API Data, without our prior written consent;
- build a competing event calendar, dataset, feed, or API using API Data;
- redistribute, resell, sublicense, or syndicate the API or API Data outside your Application;
- circumvent quotas, rate limits, authentication, or other technical limits (including via multiple accounts, key rotation, or IP fan-out);
- reverse-engineer the API, except as law allows.
Misrepresenting the source of API Data, or removing our attribution, is a breach.
05Credentials
Keep API keys and tokens secure; don't embed them in client-side code that exposes them to end users. Notify us at api@coinmarketcal.com if a credential may be compromised. We may revoke or rotate any credential we believe is compromised.
06Fees and billing
Fees, billing periods, and payment terms are those shown when you subscribe or in a separate written agreement. Fees exclude taxes (VAT etc.) unless stated. Fees are non-refundable except where required by law.
We may change pricing with reasonable notice for active paid subscriptions. If you don't accept the change, cancel before it takes effect. Failed payments or charge-backs may suspend access.
07Quotas and fair use
Your access is subject to the quotas and rate limits shown in the developer documentation and in your subscription. Don't circumvent them, and don't structure your use to evade them. We monitor API use to enforce these API Terms, manage capacity, and bill correctly. Sustained or willful overage may be treated as a breach.
08Data freshness, caching, and deletion
Freshness depends on tier. Free-tier API responses are delayed by 24 hours from the source event time. Paid tiers receive responses with no editorial delay; current freshness terms per tier are documented at /developer.
Caching. You may cache API Data inside your Application as long as needed to operate your service. The restrictions in section 04 still apply: caching does not authorize building a separate dataset, feed, or competing API.
Deletion on request. If we ask you to delete specific API Data because law, a rights holder, or a correction requires it, promptly delete it and confirm in writing if asked.
Your end users. You're responsible for any personal data you collect from your end users through your Application, including GDPR where it applies.
09Intellectual property and attribution
As between you and us, we own the API, API Data, and editorial layer (scoring, ranking, categorization, identifiers). You keep rights in your Application. The CoinMarketCal name may be used only to identify us as the source of API Data; logo use needs prior written consent.
Where you display API Data, don't remove or obscure attribution we provide.
10Availability and changes
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the API at any time. We aim to give advance notice of breaking changes to documented endpoints where reasonably practicable; you're responsible for keeping your Application compatible. Unless agreed in a separate written agreement, we provide no specific uptime, support, or SLA commitment.
11Disclaimers
The API and API Data are provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. We don't warrant that the API or API Data will be accurate, complete, current, uninterrupted, or error-free. You're responsible for evaluating fitness for your Application.
12Limitation of liability
Nothing here excludes liability that can't be excluded under applicable law (fraud, gross negligence, death or personal injury caused by negligence).
To the maximum extent permitted by law, CoinMarketCal and its affiliates will not be liable for:
- loss of profits, revenues, business, goodwill, data, or anticipated savings;
- trading or investment losses, however caused;
- indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages.
Our total aggregate liability arising from these API Terms or your API use will not exceed the greater of EUR 100 or the fees you paid us for API access in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.
13Indemnity
You agree to indemnify CoinMarketCal and its affiliates against claims, damages, and reasonable legal fees arising from your use of the API, your Application, your breach of these API Terms or the Terms, or your infringement of third-party rights.
14Termination
We may suspend or terminate API access if you breach these API Terms or the Terms, your use poses a risk to our systems, you fail to pay or trigger a charge-back, or a regulatory or rights issue requires it. You can stop using the API at any time and request account closure at api@coinmarketcal.com.
On termination, your license ends. Stop using the API and API Data, delete stored API Data unless legally required to keep it, and confirm deletion if asked. Sections 04, 08, 09, 11, 12, 13, and 16 survive.
15Export and sanctions
You confirm you are not located in, and will not use the API from, any jurisdiction subject to comprehensive trade sanctions or embargoes that apply to your API use, and that you are not on any applicable sanctions list. Don't use the API for activity that would violate export-control or sanctions law.
16Governing law and notices
These API Terms are governed by the laws of France. The courts of Paris have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes arising from API use, and you submit to their jurisdiction.
Severability, no waiver, assignment, and entire agreement follow Terms §13. Force majeure follows Terms §11. Notices to us: api@coinmarketcal.com.
